The eternal debate: is caffeine good or bad? The American Heart Association says “Yes” (helpful, we know). In short: moderate doses throughout the day can help you be more alert, but if you aren’t already a coffee drinker, they wouldn’t recommend that you start. Excess levels of caffeine can cause heart palpitations, anxiety and other worrying effects. That’s why small, sustainable doses (like the 35mg found in Wize iced tea) can be safely consumed by all adults for a little added boost in the day.

This week’s interview is a throwback with mountain biker Mavic Thorpe-Shaw. Recently profiled on NCWLife, Mavic and his dad Vance (a former professional skier) are turning their love of outdoor sports into a living. Mavic himself originally wanted to be a pro ski racer, but switched sports the first time he experienced the Whistler bike park. He hasn’t looked back since, recently placing 10th at the Kamloops Norco Canadian Enduro Series. Follow Mavic on Instagram to keep up with all of his adventures.

Tehran-based artist Mohsen Heydari Yeganeh brings us a collection of what he refers to as “flying garbages”: sculptures made of broken tools, wooden handles, fabric scraps and more. He uses these discarded items to create animals ranging from oxen to toucans to highlight the beauty in upcycled creations. You can see more of his work with fellow artist Arman here.

Once a decade, Floridae—a Dutch horticultural expo—brings both beautiful flora and flourishing ideas to the world. This time, their focus is on what we can do to make our cities a little greener (both literally and figuratively). The ideas range from small to big—like metal canopies to bring more beauty to a commuter’s daily life, or entirely new building materials that would literally reshape our buildings with minimal environmental impact.
