Krishna is an elite track athlete that breaks barriers with her genuine approach to training and her passion for athletics. She’s a certified bad ass that blazes her own trail, and is currently training for the next Summer Olympics in Tokyo. We actually met Krishna in a Sprouts grocery store in LA and connected over our shared love for progressive healthy and ethical food, and we kept in touch ever since.
How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
When I was 7, my PE teacher encouraged me to run track after I broke the school’s mile, 100 yard and 50 yard records, beating all of the girls and boys up to the fifth grade. That summer I joined a track club and raced in national junior olympic track competitions, which I did not win as easily. At 13, I won my first national title in the 800m. In high schoo, I was a 5-time Tennessee state champion and won a second national title in the 800m. My achievements as a youth and high school athlete earned me scholarship to run for UCLA. While in college, I worked part-time at the campus gym and coached youth athletes for supplemental income. I instantly loved adapting the strategies I learned as athlete to help other optimize their health and performance.
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your craft to new heights? What’s your true motivation?
At the end of a workout I feel refreshed and detoxified. Not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. After college, the motivation of team competition and training became a constructive outlet for relieving stress and challenging my fears. I used to overtrain and ignore pain signals from my body during workouts, which eventually led to poor performances and chronic injury. The rehabilitation strategies I learned while recovering from those injuries sparked my interest in functional training and corrective exercise. Injury forced me to creatively address my strength and mobility imbalances without losing fitness. At 30 years old, I am running faster and lifting more that I ever could during my peak in college. More importantly, I recover quickly and remain injury free.
If you could have tea with an idol or figure, who would it be? Why?
Former USA first Lady Michelle Obama. I was studying Political science at UCLA in 2008 when Former President Obama was campaigning. The presidential race made was the topic of every lecture. I’m so curious to know what her future political and personal plans are.
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A collaboration?
I’m extremely grateful for all of the sports and fitness modeling opportunities I have been granted. As a kid I collected posters and magazine cut outs of my favorite athletes to reference for inspiration. I hope that the projects I appeared in have motivated others to have fun through physical activity and lead active lifestyles.
In regards to your craft, where do you want to be in 5 years?
I plan to be retired from competing in track in field, but hopefully still involved in the sport as a coach and assisting with LA’s preparations for the 2028 Olympics!
Define your idea of ‘living with wizdom’ in the modern world. What is timeless about it?
Living with wizdom for me means being an informed and mindful consumer, especially with regard to food. Everyone should to research the ingredients, sourcing and health implications anything we consume. Additionally, I think living with wizdom means that we should all do our best to promote environmental sustainability in our daily habits.
What’s your favourite flavor of Wize Monkey Coffee Leaf tea? How do you steep or consume it?
Functionally, I love Minty Marvel because the mint extracts promote smooth digestion. I drink it to feel light and energetic after a hearty lunch. For pure enjoyment, Mango party is hella good. I steep it in hot coconut milk, then pour it in my travel mug so that I can enjoy it on the go. .
Mango seems to be really popular, that’s for sure! Where can our audience find out more about you?
