Vancouver, BC
How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
I first saw a few friends from school doing it. I was in football at the time and thought skateboarding was way cooler so I quit that and have been skateboarding ever since.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
To be on my skateboard everyday somehow or another.
Who was your biggest inspiration?
Mitch Barrette / Spencer Hamilton
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your skills to new heights? What’s the intrinsic driver or motivation?
Seeing my friends progress always gets me excited the most. Moreover, there is a never ending world to learning new tricks and keep progressing.
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A specific moment?
Everyday on my skateboard is a blessing. Traveling, seeing new places and meeting people or just simply finally landing a trick I've been trying for a while.
In regards to your career, where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
To be honest, just keep being grateful and healthy enough to continue skateboarding for as long as I can.
In terms of healthy habits, what are your thoughts on the current beverage options out there? (I.e. Energy Drinks, high sugar drinks etc)
The current options out there right now are repetitively filled with way too much sugar and absolute foul ingredients that aren't usually the best to put in what you'd call a ‘’healthier drink’’.
How does Wize fit into your current lifestyle? And why do you choose Wize?
I used to be that kid at the skateboard park with the tall cans of iced tea (we all know the brand) and as I got older realized how unhealthy those are because they are filled with tons of refined ingredients etc. I love Wize because of its low sugar content and uncompromised great taste.
What are the next projects coming down the pipeline?
Currently working on a personal video part hopefully being released earlier to mid 2022.
What’s your favourite flavour of Wize tea? When do you typically drink it?
Mango is a favourite for sure. Perfect for right before getting a skate session started, boosting me with a little energy.

How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
During Covid, when there wasn’t much to do my parents bought me a cruiser board to cruise around a pump track. I realized how much fun it was and decided to try skateboarding. I received my first skateboard just over a year ago and haven’t looked back.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I would love to take skateboarding to a professional level if I am able to do so.
Who has been your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspirations in skateboarding are Sky Brown, Fay DeFazio Ebert, and Ruby Lilley
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your skills to new heights? What’s the intrinsic driver or motivation?
What keeps me pushing and is the intrinsic driver or motivation is the thrill and rush of landing a new trick after hours, days and sometimes months of work and falls. There is no better feeling of accomplishing what I had set out to do.
So far, what has been your favourite highlight in life? An achievement? A specific moment?
Honestly, just being where I am at with my skateboarding feels like the best achievement.
Where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
I hope to be in a place where I am able to skateboard around the world and pretty much skate anything. The Olympics would be the ultimate dream if I am going to dream big.
In terms of healthy habits, what are your thoughts on the current beverage options out there? (I.e. Energy Drinks, high sugar drinks etc)
I am not a fan of super sugary drinks so I usually stick to water or carbonated water.
How does Wize fit into your current lifestyle? And why do you choose Wize?
Wize is an awesome alternative to sugary drinks. I love the idea that I can have a wize drink as a treat after a hard skateboarding session but without getting all sugared and caffeined up.
What are the next projects coming down the pipeline?
I have a few tricks I am working on and hope to participate in some local skate competitions this summer.
What’s your favourite flavour of Wize tea? When do you typically drink it?
I haven't tried them all, so I don't have a favourite yet. I am looking forward to trying them all. I would typically drink them after a skate session.
Thanks for the interview! Where can our audience find out more about you?

How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
When I was in middle school, I decided to join the Coquitlam Cheetahs track and field club as a way to get prepared for the soccer season. Although my plan was to do the running events, the club encouraged all their members to try events in all three track and field categories including running, jumping and throwing. So, I began trying events in practice such as the 1500m, triple jump, high jump, discus, javelin, and the hammer throw. Through practicing in these different events, I gravitated towards the throws as I enjoyed the feeling of strength and the challenges associated with the highly technical nature of the events. In 2012, after a couple years of training, I qualified for my first big competitions, the BC Summer Games and the Canadian National Championships. It was at this moment that I really believed in my potential and truly discovered my talents in the event. I won all three of my events (hammer, javelin and discus) at the BC Summer Games and also capped off the championship, winning the W.R.Bennett Award for Athletic Excellence. I then went on to win a gold, a silver and a bronze at the Canadian National Championships that same summer.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always had two aspirations as a kid. One aspiration was (and continues) to be an Olympian and the other was to be an Architect or Doctor.
Who was your biggest inspiration?
I have always looked up to people who have been trailblazing the path which I hoped to follow; successful in both their STEM professional and athletic fields. One person who has been of inspiration to me lately is NY Jets NFL team member and graduate of Medicine, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif.
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your skills to new heights? What’s the intrinsic driver or motivation?
It is almost next to impossible to have a perfect throw, but it is the desire to reach for as close to perfection as possible that drives me to push my throws to new heights (or should I say lengths). It is a constant battle, working on the technical aspects of the throw, but it feels amazing when the technique clicks into place, the throw soars to a distance you’ve never thrown before and a new personal record is set.
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A specific moment?
One of my favourite moments of my career so far has been competing on my third Team Canada at the World University Games in Naples Italy where I placed ninth. This was a multi-sport game and I really enjoyed not only meeting and competing with athletes from all over the world, but competing in a massive track and field stadium, and being able to experience and enjoy other sports on the international stage.
In regards to your career, where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
I am currently training towards the Paris 2024 Olympic games!
In terms of healthy habits, what are your thoughts on the current beverage options out there? (I.e. Energy Drinks, high sugar drinks etc)
I have always found it somewhat difficult to find a healthy beverage, besides water, that I could buy and drink on the go. So many beverages on the market today contain loads of sugar and other unhealthy ingredients and these are especially prominent in the on-the-go market.
I was so happy when I found a brand like Wize. Not only is the iced tea easy to take on the go, but it’s refreshing and really great tasting. It’s important to stay hydrated throughout the day and Wize iced tea has been a great option for me in helping to keep my body fuelled.
How does Wize fit into your current lifestyle? And why do you choose Wize?
I love Wize because it is a convenient, tasty, healthy, and refreshing beverage that I can drink on the go at work, as well as before and after training sessions. Drinking Wize at work has been an especially good substitution for coffee and for helping to keep me hydrated before my training sessions in the afternoon. I have also been trying to reduce my sugar intake, so Wize is a great option with only 1g of sugar per can. Outside of my usual work and training schedule, I also enjoy taking wize with me on walks and hikes!
I also choose Wize because I highly value supporting others and Wize is a socially responsible company, working to support people in the coffee growing industry by providing them with an additional source of yearly income, by reducing hunger, and by increasing access to education in these communities.
What are the next projects coming down the pipeline?
I have been working with my new coach here, back at home, ever since graduating from the University of Connecticut in May of 2021, and we have been working to completely revamp my throwing technique. This has been quite the challenge, but I am excited to see the results of this hard work later this season when it all starts to come together. This summer I am hoping to qualify for the World University Games again, the Commonwealth Games or the NACAC Championships.
What’s your favourite flavour of Wize tea? When do you typically drink it?
My favourite flavour is the Grapefruit iced tea, but I also love drinking the lemon and the mango as well. I typically drink Wize iced tea while at work for a refreshing caffeine boost, and after workouts to help keep me hydrated.

How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
I started mountain biking as a kid like most, but being situated on “The Shore” while the Freeride was being born really kick-started it. My Mom and Dad loved driving me and my friends to go biking. They really supported my passion for the sport, and helped me get to where I am today.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a professional Mountain Biker
Who was your biggest inspiration?
I looked up to legends of the sport like Wade Simmons, Thomas Vanderham, Aaron Chase, Jordie Lunn, and my friend Geoff “Gully” Gulevich (just to name a few) Gully went to the same highschool as me, and he was a “Pro” before he graduated. Having someone that successful within my circle inspired me to do it too! Watching the movies from New World Disorder and North Shore Extreme, kept me insanely stoked to learn and push myself.
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your skills to new heights? What’s the intrinsic driver or motivation?
I think it’s just love for my sport, and wanting to keep progressing personally. I love how creative you can be on a bike, and the freedom it gives you. The forest is endlessly beautiful and exploring it on my bike will never get old!
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A specific moment?
The earlier years of my career that consisted of road-tripping and flying around the globe to compete in Slopestyle contests are the biggest highlights. I’ve met life-long friends from these times, and have so many insane memories that don’t even seem real when looking back on them. I won contests, saw beautiful parts of the world, did crazy stuff with my friends, and met incredible people all thanks to my bike.
In regards to your career, where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
At this point in my career, I'm stoked to continue along the path of creating media and adventuring with my friends. I want to explore bike-packing more, and get deeper into the wilderness with my own power. So in 5 or 10 years…. I wanna keep doing what I’m doing haha.
In terms of healthy habits, what are your thoughts on the current beverage options out there? (I.e. Energy Drinks, high sugar drinks etc)
I think the current beverage options out there have way too much sugar and processed ingredients. When energy drink athletes won’t drink the product that supports them, you know something is wrong there.
How does Wize fit into your current lifestyle? And why do you choose Wize?
I like how Wize is a low-sugar drink that has a mellow caffeine boost. It helps me get an extra bit of energy without negatively affecting my performance or health. It’s also really great to see a brand doing such great things for the global economy like expanding jobs in the coffee bean industry to be year-long!
What are the next projects coming down the pipeline?
I’m just about to start a video project with old friend Graeme Mieklejohn. We are making a “very shore” video inspired by Sterling Lorence’s iconic Black and White images of The North Shore.
What’s your favourite flavour of Wize tea? When do you typically drink it?
Mango! I like to have it mid-day or whenever I'm out doing an activity. It’s also a nice evening drink when I need to stay up and edit videos on the computer.

How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
I discovered my talent and passion for endurance sports at a young age. As a child, I played almost every sport you can think of. I loved working hard, having fun and moving my body. I started mountain biking when I was six years old, but I hated it. My dad would try to take me to our local trails and I would race him up, and then walk down the entire trail.
At the age of 13, I decided to give it another shot. I joined my local bike team and my highschool bike team, and I got to try racing. I love pushing myself mentally and physically, and bike racing lets me do that. When I’m racing, my mind clears and I get to be 100% present. It’s magical. Now, I race cross country, enduro and cyclocross, and then I also do some xc-ski racing in the winter.
There is just something so satisfying about progressing on a mountain bike. There are endless features to conquer, and always something new to learn!
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was a kid I oscillated between wanting to be a veterinarian, and a professional athlete. I made a plan for how I was going to go to the olympics for 4 different sports (soccer/alpine skiing/xc skiing/running). It was pretty funny but also (just a little haha) unrealistic.
Who was your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration as a kid was Jessie Diggins, an American cross country skier who won gold at The Olympics. Her positivity and enthusiasm is incredibly inspiring and she works very hard to create a better world for female athletes.
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your skills to new heights? What’s the intrinsic driver or motivation?
I have always been a very driven person, and I love testing my boundaries. My favourite saying is “how will you know if you never try?” I like to live by it. I have to try chasing my goals. Even if I come up short, I can still be proud of myself for trying and find joy in the small successes. I am addicted to becoming the best version of myself. If it doesn’t work out, I analyze what could have gone better, and then I move on!
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A specific moment?
My highlight of my career so far for xc would have to be a Canada Cup Short Track in Canmore. This was a special day for me because we don’t get to race short tracks very often, and it was my first Canada Cup podium. I pushed myself to my limit and had sooo much fun!
My highlight for enduro would have to be Nationals in Whistler in 2021. I was 2nd on the first stage, and feeling super strong and focused. On the fourth stage, I flatted and I dislocated my shoulder, so I needed to run. It would have been super easy to just pull out of the race, but I found the strength to fix the flat and persevere. I ended up 6th in the end, but I proved to myself that I am capable of more and can push through.
In regards to your career, where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
In 5 or 10 years I want to be a professional athlete who advocates for equality in sport. I want to represent Canada on the world stage at the Olympics. I would also like to have graduated from university with my undergrad.
In terms of healthy habits, what are your thoughts on the current beverage options out there? (I.e. Energy Drinks, high sugar drinks etc)
I find that a lot of the beverage options out there have way too much sugar. They are great until the sugar-crash hits, and then I just feel more tired than before. As a high performance athlete, I have to be conscious about what fuel goes into my body.
How does Wize fit into your current lifestyle? And why do you choose Wize?
I’m a big hot tea drinker, so I love having a cup of Wize hot tea in the morning as a nice wakeup. I’m not a huge fan of super sugary drinks, so Wize Iced Teas are super refreshing when I need a midday pick me up!
What are the next projects coming down the pipeline?
I’ve always got lots on the go training-wise, and am hoping to do some photoshoots and video projects soon!
What’s your favourite flavour of Wize tea? When do you typically drink it?
My favourite flavour of Wize Tea is the Chocolate Dream hot tea and Lemon Iced Tea!

How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
My Dad got me my first bmx from a garage sale when I was 5 and I was obsessed until about the age of 16 when I sold my mountain bike for a motocross bike. After many years of riding dirt bikes and getting multiple injuries I got back into Mountain biking about 5 years ago and here we are :)
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to sell Mercedes 🤷🏻♂️
Who was your biggest inspiration?
As a kid Michael Jordan now Laird Hamilton.
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your skills to new heights? What’s the intrinsic driver or motivation?
Honestly it is many things. I love having an idea and going out into the woods, finding downed wood or red dirt and building what you imagined, hitting the feature for the first time, having it work, and also getting the shot that you had envisioned in your head. It’s a whole process that I really enjoy.
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A specific moment?
Probably getting to race in the Steve Smith BC DownHill cup this summer and finishing 6th in my class . It was an amazing experience. Also the Mt Dumont road gap is probably my biggest send .
In regards to your career, where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
I will continue to race Down Hill In the summer and will be training to try and make the podium overall for the BC cup but my main passion is building trails and getting shots in the forest.
In terms of healthy habits, what are your thoughts on the current beverage options out there? (I.e. Energy Drinks, high sugar drinks etc)
When I was younger I went from red bull to sugar free red bull to yerba mate but now ever since you guys sent me that one box we have been buying wize drinks. My wife and I avoid sugar, pops, juice and processed carbs at all costs as we are aware of the inflammation , weight gain and many other issues it can cause. I think what you guys are doing as a brand is amazing and I am so stoked there is a healthy refreshment on the shelves now, stoked to be a part of the movement !
How does Wize fit into your current lifestyle? And why do you choose Wize?
I am self-employed. I own a clothing brand called Seven Cedars that is an outdoor and casual wear that is mainly run online at this point so I have lots of spare time to surf, trail build, and of course ride my Mountain bike. Doing all these things is very draining and wize drinks definitely help me stay motivated .
What are the next projects coming down the pipeline?
I am building a trail that we have been documenting on Instagram a little bit but when it is done I will be making a lengthy edit for YouTube and instagram with multiple wood features and we will showcase a bunch of us drinking wize along the way :) .
What’s your favourite flavour of Wize tea? When do you typically drink it?
Mango is my fav and I drink them morning and lunch before rides or a surf . I like how they are not overloaded with caffeine so I can have a few a day .

Tofino, BC
How did you discover your talent?
I grew up as a dancer and always loved movement! When I first started surfing it felt like dancing! I was immediately addicted to surfing!
What got you started?
I grew up on the surfless side of Vancouver Island but had been out to Tofino as a little kid and since then I always wanted to live the surf life here! I moved from Nanaimo to Tofino when I was 18 and never looked back! Haha
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a mermaid of course!
Who was your biggest inspiration?
My dad. He is a legend. Hard working, dedicated and hilarious.
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your skills to new heights? What’s the intrinsic driver or motivation?
Just meeting new people and learning from others keeps me pushing my skill! Also, my dreams. I dream about surfing a lot, the feeling of different maneuvers on different waves. It helps me try new stuff and go for waves I usually wouldn't go for!
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A specific moment?
Definitely my favourite highlight of my career so far has been winning the Canadian National Title in Women's longboard. For a lot of years prior I had been competing with men in a mixed longboard category. I kept pressuring RipCurl to create a Women's longboard division and the year they did I took it home and won the category! I was so happy and so proud at the awesome turn out of all the ladies for the category. Nothing is more fun than surfing with friends!
In regards to your career, where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
I want to be doing exactly what I'm doing now. Surfing, loving life, gardening, chilling. If there could be some surf contests again soon, that'd be awesome. I basically feel like I'm living the dream and wouldn't change anything though.
In terms of healthy habits, what are your thoughts on the current beverage options out there? (I.e. Energy Drinks, high sugar drinks etc)
I definitely think there's way too many sugar overloaded beverages out there in the world. I usually don't buy anything, just drink good ol' water. I started drinking Wize when I got back into landscaping recently I wanted a bit of energy and something cold and I tried it and was hooked! So delicious and refreshing!
How does Wize fit into your current lifestyle? And why do you choose Wize?
Just like I said the question before, it's so refreshing and just that perfect amount of caffeine that you don't feel jittery! Keeps me going for surfs, landscaping or just relaxing in my garden!
What are the next projects coming down the pipeline?
Working with my guy on new photos and video!
What’s your favourite flavour of Wize tea? When do you typically drink it?
Grapefruit, baby!! It's the perfect flavour with the coffee leaf tea!

How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
I owe the start of my snowboarding career to my parents. They would take my siblings and I up to our family chalet at Beaver Valley Ski Club ever since I was born. They taught me how to snowboard as soon as I could walk, and I loved it for as long as I can remember. My parents helped me get into freestyle programs there and eventually local contests which led to me entering provincial contests. Once I started winning those competitions I got into competing nationally. I realized I was usually taking top spot at national contests and that I could do tricks the other girls couldn’t yet. I started to believe in myself more and that helped me to get to the next step of committing all my time to snowboarding, knowing I had what it takes to snowboard as my career. Soon enough I made the national development team and eventually the national team.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
As a kid I wanted to be a doctor when I grew up. I was on track to achieve that all through high school and got accepted into a life sciences program at Laurier university in Ontario. I am still taking courses on the side of snowboarding, and plan to keep educating myself towards my goal of becoming a doctor which I will continue to pursue after snowboarding.
Who was your biggest inspiration?
I didn’t really grow up watching snowboarding honestly. There just weren’t enough women being filmed and included in the industry to watch as there were men. I would watch mens snowboarding from time to time but my biggest supporters and inspirations were always my first coaches and my family. My brother has always been good at snowboarding and his progression would help me push myself to do better.
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your skills to new heights? What’s the intrinsic driver or motivation?
I genuinely just absolutely love snowboarding. I love having something out of the ordinary that I can excel at and always be progressing at. The feeling of landing a new trick you’ve worked so hard for or were so scared to try is unmatchable. I chase that feeling of adrenaline and pure satisfaction and stoke that comes on the daily when I snowboard. Any day I get to snowboard is better than any day not riding, so my genuine love for the sport is what continues to drive me. I don’t know where I would be without it.
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A specific moment?
My favourite highlight of my career was definitely winning the World Ski & Snowboard festival big air in Whistler in April 2019. That moment meant a lot to me because I competed against and beat these women that I had been looking up to for years, who had been to the Olympics and X Games and that made me feel like I’m really capable of being one of the best in this sport. The $20,000 cheque was definitely not bad either.
In regards to your career, where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
In 5 years I hope to have competed at my second Olympics, and to have been invited to X Games at least once. By then I hope to have a big enough name in snowboarding to have an influence on the younger generation of women and girls and help them find inspiration to do what they love whether that’s snowboarding or something else.
In terms of healthy habits, what are your thoughts on the current beverage options out there? (I.e. Energy Drinks, high sugar drinks etc)
To be honest, the beverage options out there are not drinks I would spend my money on and they definitely do not suit my lifestyle and health/nutrition habits. Energy drinks are too full of sugar and the caffeine level is too high to have on a regular basis. Even non-energy drinks are usually just packed with sugar which I don’t need in my diet. I love coffee but unless you go to a real coffee shop or make it yourself at home, the bottled coffee or fast food coffee is either terrible or way too sweet or both.
How does Wize fit into your current lifestyle? And why do you choose Wize?
I choose Wize teas as my main beverage because they’re the only drink I’ve found that suits my lifestyle as an athlete. First of all the caffeine comes from coffee leaves, making it more of a slow rising and declining energy instead of a quick boost and then crash. They also only have 1 gram of sugar so I never feel guilty for drinking it. It still tastes so good and gives me the energy I need in the morning or throughout the day.
What are the next projects coming down the pipeline?
This 2021-2022 season I am strictly focused on making the 2022 Olympics. This has been my dream ever since I started winning my first local competitions. I plan to train on and off snow everyday and base all of my daily decisions around staying healthy and progressing my riding.
What’s your favourite flavour of Wize tea? When do you typically drink it?
I drink Wize teas all day long honestly. First thing in the morning, at the gym, after the gym, with lunch, and in the afternoon. The 35mg caffeine is great because I can have one in the evening and still sleep just fine. My favourite flavour is the hint of lemon iced tea but the grapefruit and mango are also amazing.

How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
I started skateboarding when I was pretty young… maybe like 10 years old. And that made me really want to try snowboarding. And then when I finally did get to try snowboarding, it came to me a lot easier than skateboarding did, even though I will always love both about the same.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I used to change my mind all the time. I knew I wanted to be some sort of athlete. I thought maybe I'd be in the circus or a hockey player or something. And I also really liked art. I wanted to be a tattoo artist for a long time too.
Who was your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration was probably my first coach because he was so funny and just made everything into a joke. He was also a crazy good snowboarder and never took anything too seriously. I definitely look up to that.
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your skills to new heights? What’s the intrinsic driver or motivation?
I think I have always thought that the better I am, the more fun I can be having. It’s also really nice to do at least one thing a day that scares you. So the two go hand in hand I guess. I would love to just pull up to a feature and have a huge bag of tricks I can choose from. I want to just feel like an artist with so many different paint brushes when I ride.
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A specific moment?
I always seem to look back on the sessions where I am working really hard to get one trick. When I don’t want to hike up one more time, but then I do anyways and it pays off. I would say those are the best days snowboarding and I would like to have more of them.
In regards to your career, where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
That’s a hard question, I think even just a few years ago my answer would be very different from now. I don’t know if I could even imagine myself that far from now… could be doing anything really. I guess 10 years from now I just want boarding to be a big part of my life still, could be in any type of way.
In terms of healthy habits, what are your thoughts on the current beverage options out there? (I.e. Energy Drinks, high sugar drinks etc)
It’s not that easy to find a decent drink out there. There’s a lot of caffeine in basically everything now and so much sugar or artificial sweetener. Sometimes I just want something to sip on that’s not water, but I can’t really justify drinking a can of soda. It can be really hard to find a nice in between.
How does Wize fit into your current lifestyle? And why do you choose Wize?
I love Wize because I don’t feel guilty or gross after I drink one... or even two. I think it’s super cool how it’s made out of coffee leaves instead of tea leaves as well.
What are the next projects coming down the pipeline?
Unfortunately this year is basically over now, but for next season I would like to do a bit more street snowboarding and big mountain riding. Just because I’ve kind of always ridden the park I would love to try out some of the other avenues of snowboarding.
What’s your favourite flavour of Wize tea? When do you typically drink it?
My favourite flavour is hint of lemon. My favourite time to drink it is right after riding when I like to have a little relax session.

How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
I’ve always been a skier since I was a couple years old. In 2015 I joined the Whistler Freeride Club, and that's when I started taking skiing seriously. I wasn’t so quick to latch onto mountain biking though. I didn't really start mtb until I was about 12 years old. But ever since then, it’s been a full go, non-stop biking (except during ski season). I picked up biking quickly as it's similar to skiing.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Haha well I’m still kind of figuring that out. When I was younger I always knew I never wanted to work a traditional 9-5 job. So right now I’m making that vision a reality and working on creating cashflow businesses and being a professional athlete.
Who was your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspirations are the youth and the next generation of prodigies. Every new generation are so good and better than the last. Instead of fighting the change and evolution of the sport, I coach and try to help the next generation become better than the current one!
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your skills to new heights? What’s the intrinsic driver or motivation?
Learning new things is fun and it keeps things exciting. I also keep pushing my skills in order to stay relevant in the fast evolving world of action sports.
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A specific moment?
Going to compete at the Freeride World Junior Championships for skiing in Austria was a highlight for sure. But my favourite may have to be March 8th 2021; it was the sendiest ski day ever.
In regards to your career, where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
Shredding new lines on the Bike & Skis and really pushing the creative side. I hope to have my real estate investment properties supplying me with cash flow at that point so I don’t have to work (other than on my career as a professional athlete) and can just focus on biking & skiing and any other sports.
In terms of healthy habits, what are your thoughts on the current beverage options out there? (I.e. Energy Drinks, high sugar drinks etc)
So bad! I can’t stand some of the toxic options on the market. Which is why I always drink water over those other options.
How does Wize fit into your current lifestyle? And why do you choose Wize?
I have long days and live an extremely active lifestyle. Between coaching, biking, skiing, viewing properties and working on my computer, it’s important that I stay hydrated and energized
I love what Wize is doing and that it’s a local company. I like that it's low sugar as this is so much healthier! The food industry could get by on so much less sugar!
What are the next projects coming down the pipeline?
Shredding new lines & innovative ideas. Always creating content and documenting the bikes and skis.
What’s your favourite flavour of Wize tea? When do you typically drink it?
The Hint of Lemon. Drink it right before a big day of activity or part way through.

How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
My father got me a skateboard when I was 5 and ever since then I tried every sport and skateboarding has always come back.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be the first man on Mars (like every young boy)
Who was your biggest inspiration?
I have a few. My first inspiration is Boo Johnson, when it comes to skating his style, what he chooses to skate and how he skates is a work of art not to mention his attitude is amazing.
The other one is Stevie Williams , he showed me that there was some colour to skateboarding and that made it easier to deal with growing up. I learned that no matter how different we look we all do the same thing.
Another one would be my father, he was the one that got me into skating. He taught me everything from wheelbase, length and the difference in wheels, growing up I tried every sport growing up and something about skateboarding kept me going,
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your skills to new heights? What’s the intrinsic driver or motivation?
I always get inspiration from my friends or honestly while I’m sleeping I’ll think of tricks I need to get done and try them when I wake up. Another one is the support. Seeing the younger generation get stoked and wanna push themselves makes me want to do the same
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A specific moment?
Honestly this whole year and a half. Just being myself and so much has happened. I shot for Virgil abloh and nigo’s Louis Vuitton clothing line for montecristo mag, first photo in a skateboarding magazine ever for quitmag
In regards to your career, where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
In 5-10 years I want to be in the position to do what I love to do and be able to give back and help my community. Skating isn’t forever but if I can have the chance to impact someone’s life whether it’s through skating or just a conversation.
In terms of healthy habits, what are your thoughts on the current beverage options out there? (I.e. Energy Drinks, high sugar drinks etc)
Personally I don’t really drink monster or red bull but I do drink pop. I do notice with high sugar drinks and energy drinks they give you a hard crash and when your skating or being active with pop it doesn’t energize how natural sugar would in your body
How does Wize fit into your current lifestyle? And why do you choose Wize?
Wize fits into my lifestyle because the drinks work really well while I’m skating, it’s the perfect balance of tea and flavour, I’ve switched from drinking pop cause I get more energy
What are the next projects coming down the pipeline?
I have a video part I’m working on currently, I’m hoping it’ll be done by the end of the year. Other than that just gonna keep working and bettering myself
What’s your favourite flavour of Wize tea? When do you typically drink it?
Grapefruit and Mango are my go to’s

How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
I got my first snowboard when I was 4 years old and was on a skateboard as soon as I could walk so I guess you could say I was born boarding :) I was given a splitboard two years ago by one of my idols and to this day it is one of the most amazing gifts I have ever received! It has contributed to my love for guiding and leading myself through the outdoors :)
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
As a kid I always wanted to be a professional snowboarder in the olympics :) Which soon changed to a professional snowboard in the backcountry when I watched Fullmoon Film for the first time!
Who was your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspirations were all those girls in the Fullmoon film such as Marie France, Robyn Van Gyn, Leanne Pelosi, Hanna Beaman, Jamie Anderson, as well as Spencer Obrien who wasn’t in the film but was killing it in the olympic games!
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your craft to new heights? What’s the intrinsic driver or motivation?
I realized pretty quick that competition wasn’t for me so splitboarding was a new way to combine my love for snowboarding and exploring to come together full force. I want to be a mountain guide one day and touring is a huge part of that; being able to share the incredible things nature has to offer with people who would otherwise not get to see it is something that pushes me everyday to perfect my techniques for guiding :)
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A collaboration?
The number one highlight of my splitboarding career has definitely got to be the day my younger brother got a splitboard :) I don’t think I have ever been more proud than I was the day he set up his split skies and said “Come on Irie, let’s go already!”. Dreams came true that day! As well, getting to ride and participate in the OurFabrics film series which brought me to mountains and POW I had never experienced before and will never forget!! Rode my first chutes this year for that film and I have never felt more alive :)
In regards to your craft, where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
In 5 to 10 years I would love to be guiding people into the mountains, searching for the best POW, scoping the best lines, and sending full force! More chutes please!
Switching gears a bit… what do you think about the existing grab-and-go drink options out there? Are people ready for healthier alternatives? or will “Big Sugar” continue to dominate the landscape? (I.e. Energy Drinks, high caffeine, high sugar drinks)
It is really hard to find a product that is low in sugar or without sugar at all which is super frustrating especially for someone like myself whose body doesn’t perform well on sugar. I think so many people are looking for healthier alternatives though and it is just a matter of having them accessible :)
How does Wize iced tea fit into your current lifestyle? And why do you choose Wize?
Wize tea has become my pre-ride, during work, at the beach, any activity, anytime drink! It is so refreshing but doesn’t leave you feeling like you have to go take a nap after; it is perfect for energizing the rest of your day or next activity which I really appreciate because I like to go go go :)
What are your next projects coming down the pipeline?
My next project to come out is the OurFabrics mini film which will be showcasing some of my riding and my jar of garbage! As well as my move to Iceland to pursue an adventure guiding program so some really cool pictures and videos will be coming your way soon!
What’s your favourite flavour of Wize? When do you typically drink it?
My favourite Wize tea flavour would have to be the mango :) I am a huge mango fanatic and love anything to do with mango! I normally bring one on my bike rides as a gatorade replacement as it gives me more energy without the shaky buzz I get from sugar :) Boosts me to the top of all the mountains!

How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
I think it was mostly just growing up in a beach town. The culture in Tofino revolves around the ocean and the beaches. I guess I don’t really think talent is really discovered -- I think it’s built from practice and hard work. My love for surfing was just a slow progression from going to the beach as a family to playing with my toy trucks and digging in the sand. Being at the beach inevitably leads to messing around in the shallow water with a boogie board and then wanting to stand up like the older kids. After that stage I think being around older friends who surfed definitely drove me to work hard and progress to improve.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I think I am still a kid hahaha. And to be quite honest, I have absolutely no idea. Whatever I'm doing professionally when I'm older I know I’ll definitely still have the same love for surfing that I have now.
Who was your biggest inspiration?
People like Pete Devries and Noah Cohen have been the biggest inspirations in my life. Not only is their skill level so insane but the way that they handle themselves everyday is something I strive for. They both seem to work very hard at being the best surfer and the healthiest and best person they can be. I think that combination gets lost sometimes in professional sports.
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your skills to new heights? What’s the intrinsic driver or motivation?
I think the community and the people around me are the biggest reasons I try to push my skill level. I’d say I'm kinda the younger of the crew I surf with so whenever I see Pete, Noah or Michael do something crazy I always want to do the same. My coach, Shannon Brown has also really been a great motivator and obviously he’s really helped me progress technically and competitively.
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A specific moment?
Hmm thats a good question. This last year Noah has kinda taken me under his wing and all the little local missions we’ve done have been huge highlights.
In regards to your career, where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
The Olympics has been a big goal of mine, but whatever I'm doing in the next couple years I just hope I still have the same love and froth that I have for surfing and for life right now.
In terms of healthy habits, what are your thoughts on the current beverage options out there? (I.e. Energy Drinks, high sugar drinks etc)
I don't think I've ever drank a full can of an energy drink so I'm probably not the best person to comment on this. That being said there's so many kids in my school who will drink a monster at lunch just for the taste which seems a bit weird. From the couple sips I've had I’m not a huge fan.
How does Wize fit into your current lifestyle? And why do you choose Wize?
I love coffee and I will make big jugs of iced tea in the summer, so it’s obviously a natural fit for me. I didn’t even know that coffee leaf tea was a thing and when Wize approached me I was super stoked on the taste and the low sugar appeal. I think the environmental mission that the company embraces with the farmers is super important and really fits with my view of how the world should work.
What are the next projects coming down the pipeline?
There’s nothing super specific that I’m working on right now. I’m hoping to put out a really short surf-focussed edit soon. I’m looking forward to the world opening up again once everyone is vaccinated and it’s safe to travel.
What’s your favourite flavour of Wize tea? When do you typically drink it?
I love the three flavours but I think mango is my favourite. I’ve been drinking it in the early afternoon right around when I’ll often have a second coffee because I’m bored or maybe a bit tired. And the grapefruit flavour has really been growing on me and may be my new favourite.

How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
I have been on two wheels for as long as I can remember. My passion for jumps, tricks and progression for sure started with my Dad though. He would flip a toboggan upside down and place on top of a recycling bin as a jump in our backyard. Ever since then I have been looking for the next big thing or how to push my skills!
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A firefighter. I’d say that worked out pretty well for me haha!
Who was your biggest inspiration?
Local Shore legends like Wade Simmons, Geoff Gulevich and Thomas Vanderham! I watched all their movies and looked up to everything they did. It’s been awesome to get the opportunity to ride with these guys now and consider them friends.
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your skills to new heights? What’s the intrinsic driver or motivation?
I would say the amazing community of riders we have on the North Shore. There are so many insanely talented riders that are always pushing each other. I love seeing someone build a new feature or conquer a line that scares them. It makes me want to continue to evolve my riding and find creative ways to display my skills. Also I have tons of energy and don’t like sitting still haha!
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A specific moment?
The process of finding, building and riding the scariest line I have ever seen. For those that know its an extremely steep, off camber rock slab that skirts a 100ft cliff.. A mistake is not an option. The mental battle of pushing my front wheel past the point of no return will always be a highlight for me.
In regards to your career, where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
I plan to stay in the Fire Service until I retire. For mountain biking I would love to just stay in the industry and be a positive impact on people in the sport. As I get older and naturally take less risks I would like to get into coaching. I really enjoy sharing my passion for mountain biking.
In terms of healthy habits, what are your thoughts on the current beverage options out there? (I.e. Energy Drinks, high sugar drinks etc)
I live an active lifestyle and eat very healthy. When I eat or drink poorly I see the negative effects on my performance. I personally have made a conscious effort to reduce my refined sugars so a lot of the current beverages are not for me.
How does Wize fit into your current lifestyle? And why do you choose Wize?
As a firefighter I work long days and long nights. Naturally we drink a lot of coffee/caffeine. Wize is the perfect drink for a middle of the day pick me up without a huge dose of caffeine or sugar.. And it tastes amazing. It’s also great in between all day biking laps when I need a boost.
What are the next projects coming down the pipeline?
Lots of ideas! A couple new edits planned with my fiancé, Kelsey and I will be building some new lines for an upcoming film project in the fall.
What’s your favourite flavour of Wize tea? When do you typically drink it?
Got to be the mango for me! I’m a big fan of sipping one in my truck on the way to the trails.

How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
I was the younger brother, who always watched the older boys ride and watch bike movies. Just wanted to hang with the cool kids
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Baseball player, until I discovered I worked best alone, haha.
Who was your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration would have to be the thought of progression and exploration. I just want to learn more and more
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your skills to new heights? What’s the intrinsic driver or motivation?
I just want to keep growing, learning about the world and continue to push the limits of mountain biking.
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A specific moment?
I have travelled to every continent, aside from Antarctica. Not much biking there anyway. I have been ranked 4th in the world. Placed 5th at Redbull Joyride ‘12 and 5th place at Redbull Rampage ‘13.
In regards to your career, where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
I will be staying in the cycling world but I’ll cross that bridge when i get to it.
In terms of healthy habits, what are your thoughts on the current beverage options out there? (I.e. Energy Drinks, high sugar drinks etc)
Water is great and free! I’m not super impressed with the amount of harmful beverages, readily available for kids to purchase. Along with how to do your taxes, i think healthy eating habits need to be taught in our schools.
How does Wize fit into your current lifestyle? And why do you choose Wize?
Wize is delicious, refreshing and has an appropriate amount of sugar in it. I would and do recommend Wize to any thirsty patron.
What are the next projects coming down the pipeline?
Survive a pandemic and then get back out into the world. As for now, just continuing to film, shoot and produce entertaining content for the world.
What’s your favourite flavour of Wize tea? When do you typically drink it?
The Mango, wize iced tea, is my go to.

]]>“I was the person who immediately was talking everyone's ear off about that hot cool thing that I had read about, or done on the weekend, or researched and experimented with. So I leaned into that extraversion and the fact that I am an absolute nerd who loves knowledge.”
Let me introduce you to Pax Frias, a Physical Literacy Educator at Restore Human. He’s an admitted extrovert, predisposed to a combination of hospitality and self improvement, and in that intersection is where you’ll find him. Pax spent most of his adolescence in the clouds, 3000m in the air to be exact, growing up in the mountains of Chile simultaneously, and impulsively training his cardiovascular system and sense of adventure. By the time Pax got to Canada his gregariousness was instinctual, when you couple that with a history in the hospitality industry, you can figure that the fitness community seemed to be a natural landing spot. He admits, in the beginning, he wanted to be a yoga teacher adding, “I definitely wanted to be a teacher of physical movements, but I didn't have the notion of that being a job title. I obviously wanted to work with people's bodies and I thought yoga was a really interesting and beautiful way of moving your body,” but as you’ll find with Pax, he would rather deal in multitudes than in singularities.
"It was the amalgamation of the gift of being hyperactive, physically and mentally, that got me the job with Restore Human. The real boost was thanks to the amazing team I work with every damn day."
His professional life is a testament to his multidimensionality. Look no further than his thoughts on self improvement, he says it’s as simple as, “‘I did that, what can I do next?’ I could tip my hat to the principles of zen; they believe in simplifying and improving while refining.” It’s about creating efficient and beautiful outcomes for himself as a coach and for his clients, he adds, “We’re not driven by a bottom line or profits, we’re driven by success stories.” The ‘we’ he speaks of is his team at Restore Human, a personal training centre in Vancouver. It’s headed up by Coach K, who holds dual roles as both the Director of Restore Human, and Pax’s personal inspiration. A former Australian Sniper Supervisor turned master of physical literacy and training, Coach K is “very well trained and adept at problem solving when it comes to teamwork, when it comes to the human body and when it comes to caring about big-picture human issues.” Pax adds, “I would not be where I’m at without him.”
"I want to be spearheading a team that's about three times the size of what we have now, but that's doing a hundred times better work. I also want to have a ton more adventures under my belt, some mountain summits and other nature endurance feats."
Movement is integral to Pax’s procedure, not just professionally but personally as well. One of his career highlights would be his 6000 total hours of allotted training, “halfway to mastery” he says - citing the 10,000 hour practice. He also notes a 60km canoe trip orchestrated as a group with his Restore Human team, as well as placing third in a Spartan Race in addition to coming first and second in back-back races in a single weekend as personal milestones. In striving for physical and mental refinement we see Pax’s love of both activity and thoughtfulness, it’s not enough to just know your body, according to him, you have to be accurately aware of what you’re putting in it. On the topic of sugar Pax had this to say, “it's like speeding up the now but at the cost of the future, and sugar does the same thing on a cellular level. It gives you that quick burst of energy, but at the cost of your cells being efficient and healthy longer-term.” Though, true to his propulsive attitude, he’s one to outline the pitfalls of the health and wellness industry, while pointing forward to its potential. "I think people are wising up. They're avoiding sugar, they're avoiding extreme doses of stimulants, but they are not likely going to change in terms of convenience,” he says.
It’s with Wize, according to Pax, where he can find replenishment that won’t detract from the concentration that goes into the execution of his craft, and that goes for the rest of Restore Human. “Well the staff here is all hooked, we've been very much enjoying all the flavours. You nailed it with it being an afternoon option for me. Later in the day, it's a guilt-free enjoyable kind of replenishment for me,” he says. Anything, if used correctly, can be a tool for refinement, and it appears that Pax has found such a resource in Wize, as he talks about reaching 10,000 hours in personal training I addition to running the Juan de Fuca trail, adding, “I’m gonna have more than a few cans of Wize along the way.” Beyond that, as he points out, he’s most excited about being ready to give the world the next big thing in the fitness industry, through collaboration, eco-friendliness and sustainability which speaks to his commitment to refinement, but his talents in inclusion.
